About Glamour, Inc. presents illustrations of the popular Japanese illustrator, Tokyo Alice, the "Punk - Illustar", after her successful shows in London and Tokyo. This will be the first exhibition in New York for Tokyo Alice.

The artist, Tokyo Alice resides in Tokyo, as it's obviously with her name. This NY exhibition is the third stop of her World Tour. Her first stop was a cutting-edge concept shop in London called "Pineal Eye", and the place was packed with Londoners. Her London exhibition was played up in the papers and magazines as "Dazed & Confused" and "Pure" . The second exhibition was held at the gallery, "Lapnet Ship" of Foret Harajyuku, Tokyo. She was not only interviewed by the media, but gained popularity among the young art-conscious in Harajyuku. So, what are the secrets of her amazing popularity?

Tokyo Alice illustrates herself and the people around her in fairy tale motifs, and as a result, her artwork merges daily life and imagination. Different types of images lie on top of another, inviting viewers to her mysterious and fantastic world. The illusion that Tokyo Alice creates contains full of bright colors and full of opposites, e.g., East & West, dream and reality, and good & bad. The world she creates changes its mood from romantic to punk, to nonsense to anarchy - and, she is easily capable of hopping around the boundaries of old established hoops as if they don't even exist. Her world is unique and absolutely original. It is no wonder her artwork is so highly admired by the viewers in London and Tokyo. Both her existence and artwork affect the general public.

Tokyo is a city where different cultures infuse, and as the city co-ops countless elements, Tokyo changes as if it is experiencing chemical reactions and explosions. The city seems bright and fun-filled like Disney Land; however, it certainly has another side where one can find images dark, poisonous and evil ﾐ and thatﾕs the city that Tokyo Alice chooses to be in. She has infused herself with the city, and that may be the reason why the viewers sense the "metropolis" in her artwork. She may be a popular and successful artist, but, she cries, suffers and enjoys being alive in the city just like any other girls do, and that might be the reason the viewers find things in common with her artwork and become attracted to her world.

The powerful artist, Tokyo Alice is finally coming to another birthplace of "Punk", New York. "Punk Fairy Tales - Tokyo Alice NY Exhibition" will be held at About Glamour Inc. from April 23(Friday) until May 19, 2004. The opening reception is at the gallery of About Glamour from 7pm to 11pm on April 23, 2004. Do not miss the chance to witness the beginning of the Punk Fairy Tales that has never been told in NY.
