Brooklyn, NY - March 11, 2004 - About Glamour, Inc. presents Yuki Aoki@Aoki Graphics, a graphic designer from Japan at its gallery from March 19 to April 21, 2004.

The artist, Yuki Aoki, studied in England, learned oil painting and earned BFA in the U.S. She went back to Japan and deepened knowledge of color and commercial art. After experiencing commercial art as a designer, she chose to utilize a computer, which enhances her technique and creativeness. She is currently working as a graphic/commercial artist in Japan. Due to her variety of background and talent, she is able to use new method such as writing a story book, create each character with colorful felt and shiny buttons and scan them and merge them with other computer generated art work.

She is not unique only because she uses the new method of merging different media. She creates her own unusual "cute but strange" imaginary world by crossing a line of "sanity and insanity," it seems. As one of the themes of her exhibition, she chose "Tapir". This "Tapir" is a Chinese imaginary animal that eats nightmares, and it is said in China that placing its skin under the bed when one sleeps, it helps him/her to avoid diseases, and by drawing a form of the Tapir, one can avoid evil spirit. Thus, Ms. Aoki must have thought, "if there are lots of Tapir, many people will be happy," in her head. Then she moved on to think, "if we can only grow Tapir",- and expands her imagination even further. "If Tapir grows like plants and if lots of little capsules were inside of Tapir, and if these capsules can bring the same result of what Tapir brings by taking them, more people can be happier". Her imaginary world never shrinks, but it only expands.

For the exhibition, "Coloration and Stories," there are 3 main themes; "Tapir" - set of three laminated paper prints, approximately 6 feet each, "Flower" - set of three laminated paper prints, approximately 5 feet each, and "Story Card" - set of ten laminated paper prints. Also her original goods, which can be only found in Japan, such as letter sets, magnet, bags, bottles, pins and stickers are planned to be sold at the exhibition.

The artwork of Ms. Aoki, who was deeply influenced by her stay in England, U.S., and Japan, will take the viewers to her imaginary world, and the viewers may experience standing her/himself on the boarder line of sanity and insanity.
Her most recent work will be exhibited at About Glamour Inc., Brooklyn, New York) until April 21, 200. The opening reception will be held at the gallery of About Glamour from 7pm to 11pm on March 19, 2004 (Friday).
