Welcome to Wonderland!! Alice is pleased to invite you to expace[ex-space] projects #004, "Alice in Wonderland", hosted by About Glamour Inc., this winter of 2004. The story is told by 5 young female painters who like to draw and paint their wonders.

Sinless children curiously seducing their toys. Lauren Henkel exploits the world of child play full of bewilderment that may not be as innocent as we like to think. Colorful Japanese rice paper-like texture on curved, thick wood. Influenced by Buddhism, Zen, Shin-To, and Noh-Play, Hiromi Iuchi paints a mixed world of Japanese tradition and contemporary culture. Take a moment to focus on the textures and youÕll see that they are much more than what you see. A group of naked and abandoned girls standing in gang formation amidst thick and lively woods. Jenni KnightÕs autobiographical painting re-surfaces her childhood memory and expresses her desire to fantasize herself into fables and mythology. Tiny faces of different animals in childish scribbles on pop art colors. Naoko Sumi creates a rainbow-color world in layers of scratches and paints on tiny canvases. Portraits of strangely cute, but weird creatures. Ivette Zighelboim explores how the origin of human sentiments can be transformed into different living things and how these sentiments draw us to our own helplessness.

In addition to the group exhibit, About Glamour will be transformed into Wonderland with flowers, balloons, and mystic fog. During the opening party, we will serve cupcakes, cookies, colorful cocktails, and teas. Enjoy the whole experience of ÒAlice in WonderlandÓ!!++ÓAlice in WonderlandÓ will be on view at About Glamour Inc. through January 23rd to February 18th, 2004. The gallery is located at 103 North 3rd St. (between Berry and Wythe Ave.).
