Yunmee Kyong Solo Exhibition

Brooklyn - AG Gallery is pleased to present “tea with Gods”, a solo exhibition of Brooklyn-based artist Yunmee Kyong. This will be the artist's first solo exhibition in New York. The exhibition will consist of a collection of paintings, drawings, silk-screened prints, life-sized sculptures as well as artist's hand made books. The whole gallery space will be transformed into the artist's imaginary world of coexisting different kinds of god altogether.

Yunmee Kyong offers an idea of blurring the boundaries among different religions by depicting major religious icons into one place. In her painting, several kinds of god are taking a bath in a public bath and traveling to an imaginary country together. Kyong also presents two life-sized sculptures inspired by Asian religious icons (Buddha from Buddhism and Ganesha from Hindu). These two gods are having teas on a big table and audiences are invited to have a cup of tea on the same table together.

Yunmee Kyong received a BFA from Kingston University, U.K. in 1999 and MFA from School of Visual Arts, NY in 2002. She currently lives and works in Brooklyn.

*Every Sunday Afternoon after the show opens, two sculptural gods invite audiences for the SUNDAY AFTERNOON TEA PARTY on 4/30, 5/7, 5/14 and 5/21, 1-4pm at AG Gallery.

“tea with Gods − Yunmee Kyong Solo Exhibition” will be on view at AG Gallery through May 21st, 2006. The gallery is located at 103 North 3rd St., between Berry and Wythe Ave.
